Keeping your account secure

Last updated: July 2026

There’s nothing here to steal

VersaCharts never touches your exchange account. It doesn’t use API keys, it can’t place orders, and it can’t move funds. It only reads public market data. Your account holds your chart layouts, drawings, indicators, and alerts, nothing that puts money at risk.

That’s worth saying up front, because it’s why VersaCharts keeps account security light. You don’t need to lock it down like a trading account.

Two-factor authentication (optional)

2FA is available but it is not required. New accounts have it switched off, and you can turn it on any time from your account settings using an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, and 1Password all work).

For charting-only use there’s little reason to bother. The one case where it’s genuinely worth enabling: if you use the same login for VersaTrader, where you do connect an exchange. Then 2FA protects the account that has real trading access, and VersaCharts inherits that protection because it’s one login across the suite.

If you enable 2FA and later lose access to your authenticator app, email [email protected] from your registered address and we’ll help you recover.

Choosing a strong password

Use a unique password you don’t reuse elsewhere. A password manager makes this painless. VersaCharts never sees your password in plaintext, it’s hashed before it’s stored.

If you suspect a problem

  1. Change your password from Settings → Account.
  2. If you had 2FA on, check it’s still tied to a device you control.
  3. Email [email protected] if anything looks off.
